Knox Music Program

Music is an integral part of the weekly Sunday worship service at Knox, Dundas. The whole congregation takes an active part in the musical element of worship, participating in the singing of hymns, introit and several responses during the service.

On the last Sunday of the month, the service begins with a hymn sing, singing several hymns and choruses, both traditional and contemporary.

The Church Choir consists of folk from teens to seniors. They practise weekly on Thursday evening at 7, preparing responses, hymns and anthems for worship services. The choir sings a mixture of contemporary and more traditional anthems.

Vocal Solos are often featured in our worship services.

Knox is blessed to have a faithful and joyful Youth Chorus that sings every Sunday. The choir includes children and teens. This group is led by Joan Ballantyne-Hynes and practises each Sunday before the worship service.

Music is chosen to blend with the scriptural theme of the service, with attention given to special times of the year like Christmas and Easter. Anthems are usually sung in 4-part harmony and in a dynamic style.

The Pipe Organ at Knox was rebuilt in 1991, using pipes and components of a Casavant organ from St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Hamilton, parts from the former Knox organ and some new components, including a new computerized 3 manual console. R. A. Denton and Son Organ Co. installed this organ, and maintain it. The organ gives a majestic sound in the service of worship.

Knox also has a Yamaha grand piano, which adds variety to the music in the service.

Come and join with us as we worship God.
